Rolex stainless steel Milgauss ref #1019, 36 mm diameter stainless steel case with smooth bezel and acrylic crystal. The case serial # 2.6 million dates this model to 1970. A very clean example, with the rarest variation dial and hands, so called CERN dial, produced without any radioactive lume, and with black enamel on the dial indexes and hands. Featuring an especially fine condition and pleasing dial, an unpolished case, and pristine condition calibre 1580 self winding movement. The case back date stamp II/70 corresponds to the serial # production year of 1970. With folded link Oyster bracelet ref #7836 with 280 end pieces and date code 2/72 which is period correct and we believe original to the watch. A rare and fabulous example of one of the least familiar of the various specific function “tool” models from Rolex. The Milgauss was specifically developed for scientists, engineers, and mining company executives, working in high magnetic field environments. The name Mille Gauss derives from the 1000 gauss magnetic field protection this watch provides with its soft iron Farady movement cover. CERN refers to the important Swiss laboratory for particle physics located near Geneva, which houses the world’s largest particle accelerator. The CERN dial variation features black enamel caps to the dial indexes, black enamel topped hands, and is absent lume specifically to eliminate and radioactivity emanating from the watch. The CERN varation is the most prized version of the 1019 Milgauss among collectors In excellent mechanical condition, showing moderate surface scratches throughout the case, bezel, and bracelet.
